"Beautifully Broken Beans" from high atop Montana de Dios

Updated: Apr 2

The invitation went out, and we said yes. We agreed to travel by truck to the summit of Montana de Dios. To the Martinez family Coffee Plantation. Heading out of town, one right hand turn, and civiliaztion fades in the rear view mirror. Up, up, up we go, tiny villages, a school and church dot the path into the clouds. Our ears pop from the change in altitude.

Slick red mud under the tires of the burgundy 4-wheel drive, grasping for traction, somewhere, before we slide off the side of the mountain. Thankfully, Pastor Alberto Martinez, the sixty-plus year old man driving, was born in the cabin at the top. He has driven this road his whole life, in the worst conditions. It was scary the first time, but when you are in good hands, there is no need for concern.

When you arrive at the top, the view-takes your breath away. You can see El Progreso clearly from up high. Mesmerized by the view, one starts walking, but one must be careful to not go over the edge. The river, that you saw from the airplane, winds through the scene. Majestic mountains in every shade of blue and grey, are the mainscape. If it were not for the bugs, I could stay there forever!

As soon as you arrive, someone starts breaking sticks, starts a fire in a handmade clay outdoor stove, and gets coffee going. We share a meal together, cooked through the same beautiful, primative method. Every time, although there is a language barrier, God moves. We spontaneously pray for each other and sing worship songs as a group. Its always a blessed time.

"Beautifully Broken Beans"

To the casual onlooker, this may just appear to be an ordinary bag of coffee, but, these super-fresh, roasted, oily little life beans represent so much more.

We have been to the top of the mountain where these very beans grew, breathed the (thinner) air they breathed, felt th cool mountain breeze adn experienced God speaking to us up there. They were picked by teh hands of my friends, dried, roasted and presented to us.

These beans have a story, we are blessed to be part of that story. The proceeds from every single sale will support future evangelistic outreaches to teh people of Honduras. Thank you for building the Kingdom!

Not only can you purchase 4oz bags of Medium Roast coffee from BFM, we also have available "Beautifully Broken Beans" T-Shirts with the call of Isaiah 6:8 on the back, and a front saying "Caffeinated & Called." Black sizes M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL. Contact us to order.
